About
The ISSUE
Our everyday goods are getting better, smarter, and more accessible – except our homes. Instead, the spaces we live in got detached from our changing needs and lifestyles, and offer less quality.
In recent years, our homes have taken on a much greater role in our everyday life, also serving as offices, social spaces, yoga and exercise rooms. In addition, the way we live and share our homes with others has become much more diverse.
Still, most of our homes are the same, ignoring that we are all different and have different needs. Their design follows a static, one-size-fits-all approach, forcing us to adapt to our living environments instead of the other way around.
We have long been accustomed to static, predefined floorplans and room layouts. Now, it’s time that our homes become open and responsive for our individual needs, reflecting the lives we want to live.
What if our residences could offer endless possibilities within defined space? What if they could serve as a flexible framework, encouraging us to adapt floorplans and spatial configurations around our everyday needs?
Co-shape a new generation of homes that change, grow and evolve with us.
Welcome to Adaptable Homes.
The project
Adaptable Homes is a playful research project by Fragile and Knauf that aims to collect insights on how our homes can become adaptable to changing needs and lifestyles.
Developed in collaboration with Dokument Studio, the project strives to inspire tomorrow’s housing concepts that pave the way for a new generation of adaptable living spaces.
